SEMI-FINALS SET AT 2018 OCAA INDOOR SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIPS

ANCASTER, Ont. - After 40 round robin matches over two days, the semi-finals are now set at the 2018 OCAA Indoor Soccer Championships presented by belairdirect.

Twenty teams started on Thursday at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ont., with their eye's on the provincial crown. Now, as Saturday approaches, only four men's and four women's teams remain with the opportunity to play for OCAA gold.

On the women's side, the team's battling for the title are the Humber Hawks (1st Pool A), Seneca Sting (2nd Pool A), Fanshawe Falcons (1st Pool B), and the Sheridan Bruins (2nd Pool B).

Humber (3-0-1), Seneca (3-1-0), and Fanshawe (3-0-1) all finished the round robin with three wins in their four matches while the Bruins had two wins and two draws.

The Hawks needed at least one point in their final match of the day against the George Brown Huskies to secure a spot on Saturday. The Bruins, Sting, and Falcons all clinched spots in the semi-finals with one round robin match to go.

The men's teams advancing are the George Brown Huskies (1st Pool A), UTM Eagles (2nd Pool A), Humber Hawks (1st Pool B), and the Seneca Sting (2nd Pool B).

George Brown was the runaway winner in Pool A, winning three of its four matches. UTM needed a result over the host Redeemer Royals in their final match of round robin to secure their spot on Saturday. A 1-1 draw was enough for the Eagles to finish 2nd in the Pool.

The Humber Hawks took the top spot in Pool B with a 2-1-1 record. The Seneca Sting booked their ticket to Saturday in dramatic fashion after a late goal in their final match pushed them through to the semis despite a three-way tie.

Saturday's medal matches get underway at 9:30 a.m. The first men's semi-final has the George Brown Huskies taking on the Seneca Sting. The Humber Hawks will battle the UTM Eagles.

The women's semi-finals are set for 11 a.m. and feature the Humber Hawks and Sheridan Bruins in match one and the Fanshawe Falcons and Seneca Sting in match two.

The men's bronze and gold medal matches follow at 12:30 p.m. while the women's bronze and gold medal matches wrap up the championship starting at 2 p.m.
